!!Rear Cargo area Plexiglass, NEED opinions!!

Well....... I'm glad the whole KC lights vs. cargo area got cleared up. I thought I was going crazy, all I saw was cargo area. I talked to a guy who owns an custom audio shop and he told me about this stuff called Lexxon, not sure how to spell it. He said its like plexiglass but looks like actual glass. He told me it would be much better, it wont scratch as easy and will be even stronger. I didnt even think about the whole heat issue, how would I prevent the amp/amps from over heating?

I just remembered it would be pointless to do the door closest to the rear seats, thats where my sub box is gonna go. How do you think 2 caps and an amp would look in there? (1 ## 1 ) strange little diagram.

Expo 5.0- If I were to make the "window" in the MDF
mirrored then I wouldnt be able to see in it during the day. The neons arent that bright are they? This will be my first time to do something like this. I dont want something to outrageous, but I want something I can be proud of.

Thanks for the input guys, now I just need to take measurements and find a plexi/lexxon dealer. I'll keep you guys posted.

if you don't mind paying more for a scratch resistant brand name "plexiglass" (thats the common name for a whole group of plastics) you will be able to find one that won't scratch easily if at all. think huge aquarium window for an example of impressively strong scratch resisitant plexiglass.

depending on how much lighting you have in your amp rack and what type and color of plexi you end up using there are many different issues to be worked out with visibility.

another option is to use just tinted plexiglass like i have in my current install. i'll post a picture of that too.

the key to making the amp and cap thing look right is going to be installing them cleanly. i would recommend sinking them partially into either painted, carpeted, or vinyled surface so that the wires all run underneath that surface etc. -imo painting would be the best for visibility and will look the best for your application

That looks good! My only concern now is going to be space I'm not sure if I will be able to fit all or any of what I want. I really need to get out the trusty ole' tape measure. I'm not sure about whats underneath the cargo floor, I might need to make another one (if there is room). I'll check tonight and let you guys know.

If this is able to work how do you guys think white neons would look?

How much do you think it would cost to put all the plexiglass in?

Lexan can get very expensive!! 1/4" runs about $25-$30 sq/ft. 1/4" Acrylic can run about 1/4 of that.

Here is a good resource for pricing different types of clear plastics.

if i were installing- i'm saying that ballpark would be 300-400 for the amp rack like you want with the window and a carpeted cover so that it wouldn't get scratched in every day use - but it would go up if you wanted better plexi and painting the inside would make it go up also

not that its exactly what youre looking for but my false floor WAS made of plexi w/ my amps under it.......
