Rear Diff shims

cheers chris

I see it on the diagram, it looks like there are two versions (LSD and non LSD)

So it looks like if its LSD and has 6 bits each side, I assume these are a combination of clutch material and friction plates, do these wear? if so is this the source of my end float? I'll have a search on the forum to see if there is a thread on replaceing these.

With the non LSD version it looks to have a solid ring

cheers again

Jim

hi Jim
yes they are friction and steel plates and do wear but the z spring should still hold them tight against the carrier. badly worn plates would give more play in the shaft as the gear would move back. as you said i think this is a job where a second diff/axle would be useful as it can be striped to check for wear in the plates with out having to take your car off the road. i think i read somewhere that when using this type of diff for racing mustangs they add an extra steel plate but not sure. the thing is if you move the gear forward its changing the mesh with the other pinion gears. i still think extending end off shaft may be the answer if the transit parts cant be used.cheers Chris
