Rear glass defroster only partially works

Now winter is here, I need to defrost the rear hatch window. However when I do, only the top third gets defrosted. It's like the rest of the defroster in the rear window is not working. Where would I start to investigate how to fix this, if it can actually be fixed?

Exactly what I was going to suggest. I have done this repair before and it is simple and easy.

Unless you have aftermarket tint... Then it becomes a real PITA. I'd swap hatch windows before I messed with mine if it needed repair. Far easier.

Is that better than the permatex stuff? The permatex stuff is easier to find locally, and doesn't have the requirement of getting the glass up to 100F+.

it's kind of the same, like a metal paste that you paint on,

i have used both they both work good if you follow the directions to a t,,
