I am having a difficult time removing one of my rear rotors. I think it is getting hung up on the parking brake shoes. Does anyone have any recommendation on how I can get the shoes loose to get the rotor off to replace?

Back up for a second. Rotors or drums? If you are taking off rotors, then it's pretty much like the front. If you are taking off drums then you need to make sure there is enough slack from the shoes VIA adjusting the rear adjuster, and it may be a little seized due to age and heat. You may have to smack it with a hammer a few times. Good luck!

There are a few methods but the BFH is really the only one that works.

I can help

Wow, there seems to be some confusion here. The rear rotors are a combination disc rotor with an integral drum on the backside of it for the parking brakes. When you remove the rotor you automatically are removing the drum also. The problem is a ridge that develops at the edge of the drum and this makes it very tough to get the rotor off. You need to remove all the tension in the parking brake cables. Check out the manual on how to do this. This should help a lot but may not solve the problem. I hate to say it but the answer is usually force and more force and may destroy the parking brakes and/or hardware, so be ready to get new parts. I've been through this more than once.

Agree with Tom's post above^. 2002's don't have the rubber boot to back off the star adjuster. No access at all. Disconnect the E brake cable and BFH or pullers.

I thought i read somewhere, have yet to try it, from the driver side pull on the parking brake cable, the brake lever has a hole in where you can put a drill bit to remove all slack in the parking cable. Then is should come off like the fronts. A couple of post said be ready with not only the pads but parking shoes too.
