Rear seat delete

We've all seen the question.. "has anyone removed the back seat in a 2nd gen?" Then we get a bunch of pictures of where the seat used to be.. great. Now what?
What did you do with that space? Haul goats?
I needed the flat area to support my bed when camping and wanted the space below..
I now have the bed, another battery wired in, 2k amp inverter, spare cv's, axle tool, fire extinguisher, first aid kit...

Now that you have the seat out of the way you need to make a fuel pump access....nudge that inverter over a bit...

I use it more for little trips, skiing, hikes, biking. I use a roll-up table when camping. The slide-out is convenient if I don't have a bunch of crap in the back. It is nice to pull out and avoid the dirt and snow mess that is all over the rear of the rig. It is in 2X2 slides I cut from a plastic decking 2X4 board. If you load it up it does not slide out very easy, but there are better slides that can be bought. It is very basic compared to the slide-outs others are making with storage and/or cooking stuff in it for Overlanding. When I camp, I set a spot and then go play. It is used for side trips to take a break, eat, sit, change etc.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. I dig the use of rear seat space for the extra battery, inverter, and there is quite a lot of storage there! I run a smaller inverter in my consul laptop or charger for other devices........... I recognize the use of the bed frame and have done so myself for projects and good use of the existing mounting points! Yes, I have been to a thrift store for a bed frame project. The slide-out in mine helped level the bed boards I placed up front as I laid them up over the original bed. I used a couple of ratchet tie downs to hold the front boards down with all the gear under them for safety.

Looking again, I like how you bolted to the existing hinged plates that were behind the seats. My boards drop-in and I removed those plates, your design is more cooler.

Love the frame that hinges - are these the original seat mounts modified? I haven't taken out the rear seat yet to see them. Hoping to get some camping in the Ex next year..
