Does anyone have a picture of their rear sway bar? The typical sway bar I have seen has the ""hoop"" part towards the top of the pumpkin but I swear I saw one in the junkyard the other day on a 98 5.0 where the hoop part was towards the bottom of the pumpkin. So would like to see or know if they made different sway bars?

I'm using one from a 97 in my lowered 94 ranger but had to mount it upside down to clear.the sway bar I have mounts normally with the hoop part up, I need it to have hoop part down.it can be mounted upside down but if you have noticed the sway bar is not square. If you unbolt it your notice one side sits lower than the other, I'm pretty sure this is to counter act the weight of the gas tank and driver being on one side.in "theory" it helps ""lift"" the driver side.mounting it upside down would do the opposite and this is what's happening to mine.

Typical way it mounts..I need the ""hoop"" part to face the bottom. .(my explorer)
Edit. ....appears I had it wrong in my explorer!:(

Same bar, took it off the ex and mounted it in my ranger but you can see I had to mount it upside down and I think this is loading the frame up because its made to off set the weight of the driver and gas tank, upside down it loading up the driverside instead.

Those pics have the bar with the hoop down:( most of all the ones around here the hoop is up and pretty sure when I removed the bar from the donor vehicle it was up.I put a 2nd gen bar on my 93 ex then I removed it and put it on my 94 ranger.

So did I just have it mounted wrong on my ex?? Should the hoop be towards the bottom on all stock explorers? ?

When I mounted it on my ranger with hoop down and truck sitting perfectly level.I bolted the passenger side in and the drivers side bar bolt hole was 1.5" lower.I had to jack the bar up in order to get it to bolt in.

Should the bar be square? ? Maybe I have bent this bar on my explorer while I was wheeling:(

Well it seems I had it mounted wrong in my explorer.can anyone confirm the direction it should be mounted? Anyone with a 5.0 and confirm the way theirs is mounted??

Found this quote and if its true then I have it mount right in the ranger and wrong in the explorer

ok everyone-1st and 2nd gen guys go outside and measure the distance from the lower end of your sway bar endlink--to the ground. Measure each side and report back.

You have to look closely, but if your truck is sitting level the driver side link will be closer to the ground.

I'm not sure about this using an aftermarket bar but maybe Techieman33 will report something interesting.

Using this knowledge the bend might be to make up for the driver side having more weight, as an aid to leveling the truck.

Every STOCK Explorer I've seen had the hoop facing DOWN. I've seen a few up to clear the diffy cover or for added ground clearance. Yes, the drivers side upper end link and shock mount is at least 1" higher than the passenger side.

Well damn.I could have sworn I see it mounted the other way.all the pics I have found is the ee bar so didn't know if it just mounted different. ..guess I had it wrong on my explorer..

I thought that me having to jack the bar up on the drivers side to get the bolts to go in would cause it to pull the frame down on the drivers side and lift the passenger. Guess this is wrong tho.maybe I don't fully understand how the bar works!! Lol:rolleyes:

If you look closely at the above picture you'll see the upper endlink mounting point is indeed higher on the right (passenger) side.

Pushing it lower on the left side "should" push the truck up on the left.

Weirdnesses

That tells me a "hard left" maneuver might just work to help flip the truck.

Mine both end links are the same size and mount in same location. I bolted in the passenger side then had to lower the frame or raise the bar to get the driverside in.obviously it was easier to jack the bar up to get the bolt holes to align.

With the truck level and only one side bolted in, the passenger is 6.5" from the frame and the drivers side was 7.5-8" from the frame.my end links are 6.5" and from a heep

:banghead:Yea just surprised no one pointed it out to me before and I was sure the hoop was up when I pulled it from the donor truck!! Lol

My loop goes down also......better late than never on the reply.
Busy dealing with a car accident today. At least it wasn't one of my explorers.
Froze my a$$ off pulling the new winter tires off the Saturn vue. This things getting a 1 way tow job for sure. No one hurt, and hopefully our son learned something.
