i did a search in here but i dunno, maybe its me but the search function seems too complicated for me, i type in rear tow point and get about 1000 topics that have nothing to do with what i want. lol. anyways, i was undetr the back of my 01 sport today and i want to put a rear tow hook on there but i dont see where i could stick one that could be easily accessed by someone attaching a strap. can you guys please put up some pictures to give me an idea of where to put my tow took. thanks

Have you considered a Hidden Hitch? Thats what I have on my Sport and it works great. Its also nice because its in the center of the vehicle. Just an idea...

I've got a hidden hitch and a harbor freight tow hook, it works but hangs low after the body lift. I'm not sure if it's consistent through all models of the hidden hitch but i've got two metal rings next to the receiver, i guess for attaching a hook or safety chains, which will also work as tow points. mine looks kind of like this:

here's a link to the hook.

ive got a factory hitch sitting infront of my garage. the problem is the person who owned the truck before me decided to back into a pole or something and bent the bumper down a bit and now its not fittign right. i was however just thinking of massaging the nu,per up with a tow strap and a tree. thanks for te link, the hook looks great and its dirt cheap too.

You could always have mine....

It comes with a 98 Sport with 4 door leaf packs with AAL, new Rancho RS5000's, 32" Dick Cepek Mud Country's.....;)

that d ring loop, you can just get a reciever and pop the ball off and get a d ring to fit into it. might save you some money that way :)

i like the tow hook bracket, im gonna poke my head under the truck again and see about room but i might just stick a hook into the same location sideways and angle it down and call it a day :)

The receiver drawbar with a shackle in it won't be anywhere near as strong as the Warn unit. Most class-3 drawbars are only rated for 5000-6000 lbs and 500 lbs of tongue weight. Even most heavy-duty mounts aren't going to be good beyond 10,000 lbs total. I do it with mine, but I'm only pulling people out of the sand... not exactly a high-stress material. :)

makes sense. the price really isnt that bad for that unit either, i was expecting it to be alot more to be honest.

I'm looking at getting a Hidden Hitch for my '02 Sport.
Should I buy one for the same year Explorer? Explorer Sport Trac?

It appears that most of the time, the '02 Explorer falls into the 2nd gen. '95-'01 Explorer category, but I always worry about the Explorer vs. Explorer Sport fitment.

Thanks in advance for anyone's guidance!

All you need to do is get a strap with loops at the ends instead of hooks. They are safer anyway. Push the loop into your trailer hitch receiver, put the hitch pin through the loop and you have a tow point. Works great. I would not worry about breaking the trailer hitch or pin. It would take a lot of stuck to do that.

The 01-03 Sport has EXACTLY the same front end as the 2001-2005 Sport Trac .....NO difference. They are totally different from the regular 4-door Explorer.

that tow hook that silver posted came stock on a few explorers. poke around at a junk yard you may find one. theres 3 bolt i believe the bolt to the frame. i have seen them in the for sale section of the forums also.

The ones I have pulled from the junkyard were on Sports. I have found two different versions. These are after Turdle powdercoated them.

I eventually got one of the D-ring mounts and it works well and is easy to use in most cases. Does get a little difficult when its extremely cold out though.

My wife got me a Smittybilt Beaver Step for Christmas. I like that I can use it without any hooks or messing with any fasteners. Already pulled out two stuck vehicles with it. It also reduced the amount of tailgaters for some reason.
