hi, i have a 97 (was) AWD v8 explorer with the factory "trac-lock" or w/e it is.

is there anyway to make this more efficent at "locking" the axles like a locker? Do they ware out like a Clutch type LSD and need rebuilding of some kind to regain efficency?

thanks.

They do wear out, and you can rebuild them. Or, you could go with a tighter LS, like Auburn or Trutrac.

whats the differnce between the "tighness" of OE vs trutrac/auburn.

where could you purchase a rebuild kit besides a dealer.

You can get the clutch packs and spring off of e bay. There will be no comparison with a aftermarket LS and the factory control trac limited slip.

If you're not offroading your truck or racing it, I'd recommend sticking with re-building the factory limited slip rear. Locking rears have their advantages, but also come with disadvantages. If you go with a selectable locker, the disadvantage is the cost to purchase and install (can be over $1k installed). If you go with an autolocker, they can sometimes cause driveability issues. They also cost $300+ for most applications. You can get a trac-lock rebuild kit from Summit racing for about $105. See the link below.
