Hi Everyone,

I have this problem with my 2000 Explorer. Just recently I noticed that my left rear wheel "wobbles". I had the tire replaced and I noticed that it still wobbled, but not as much. I think it could be one of four things, a bent axle, bad axle bearing, warped rotor or some bad lug nuts. Some further info is that I had the tie rods replaced and an alignment performed. When I travel at highway speeds, the car begins to get jumpy. Any insight to this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

First swap the tire with the spare, see if it does it again.

Bent rim, bent axle. Be sure there is nothing between the wheel and face of the rotor, where the wheel sits. Make sure the lug nuts are all tight to 100 lbs. ft of torque. You should pull the rotor off to be sure there is nothing between the axle flange and rotor. Bearings are not going to cause it to wobble, but it may show some slight camber. When you jack it up to check fo any thing keeping the wheel from sitting flush, grab the tire and try moving it up and down, checking the bearing for excessive wear.

Don't forget to look for a tread separation on that tire, also.

That's why I told him to replace the wheel first, to check if he has a bad rim/tire - before starts digging into axles and other "goodies".

That's true, but why not cover the most likely possibilities in ONE post instead of going back and forth. Wouldn't you like to know more than one possibility to begin with?
