So my 2003 finally had 3rd gear fail completely in the 5R55 transmission.
I bit the bullet and took it to a local transmission shop to have it rebuilt.
They found 3rd gear was completely gone and band was broken.
They went thru the entire transmission and replaced the band(s), solenoid pack, converter, etc with fluid flush of all lines.
I got it back last week and have put about 200 miles on it so far.
While in there they also replaced the rear main seal.
On the way home I noticed the rear suspension was acting weird and not compressing properly.
So I went to the local Auto Zone and bought a replacement combo strut/spring and swapped it out.
Here's a quick vid I put together outlining the failures and fixes.
