Remote turn on lead?

I am temporarily using a line output converter to get a signal to my amp untill I buy a new head unit. I am not sure what to connect the remote turn on lead to? the line output converter does not have a wire for it. I am not sure but I don't think the factory head unit has a remote turn on wire?

You can hook it into any wire that has 12 volts positive when the ignition of the truck is on. For instance, I had mine hooked to the turn signal fuse in the fuse box.

your stock head unit does have a remote amp lead. just splice it in to your remote turn on lead to your head unit. if u dont hook it up o that it will not work. u have to pull the head unit out and look for the wire. usually they are labeled if not then tell me wat color wires u got

Um, if you hook up the remote turn on lead to ANY 12 volt switched source, it will work, it doesnt have to be off of the head unit.

And --- my factory HU only supplied approximately 5VDC that I could find going to my stock amplifier. It wasn't enough to turn on my aftermarket amplifier so I tied into the 12V switched power to the HU and ran it through my console with a switch so that I could turn off my sub when I want to. You will not find a 12V remote turn-on lead from a factory HU in '97 (and probably many other years).

any power source should work granted its 12v. you could , run a small wire from the battery to a switch then to the amplifer then when you want it one simply flip the switch. the danger here is forgetting to shut it off.

just run it into your fuse box and stick it under the fuse that is for ACC(i think) i havent done it like this since summer on my friends car, it works fine and shouldnt cause you any troubles, really easy to do too, just stick the wire in there and run it under the door molding on the floor to the back

The remote turn on lead is a constant 12V source? If that is so than I will wire it to the radio power, that way I cannot leave it on. I originaly thought the remote was just a short burst of 12V to turn on the amp and than the same to turn it off. I guess I am wrong.

the remote turn on is NOT 12v constant, it will only have a signal when the ignition is on or in the ACC position

On my 98 premium sound (no mach) I ended up using the yellow/black switched 12v accessory wire that fed into the radio. That way the amp were on only when the truck was on or ignition was in acc. You do not want a constant 12v source as your amps will be on all the time unless you use an inline switch.

But here is the interesting thing. I really tried to find a wire that had power only when the radio was on (like aftermarket). My thought was speaker wires. They are only powered when the radio is on right? Wrong! I determined with test light that when the truck is on or in acc the stock speaker wires are powered by a little power...even when the radio is off. I confirmed this by putting the truck in acc, radio off, and put my ear to the speaker. Damn if there wasn't a hiss of sound! Anyway the Low Voltage Trigger (relay basically that can trigger 12v off of >=0.5v) that I bought to connect to the speaker wires was useless.

Robert if you have a 5 volt source this LVT will work for you.

My next solution was to open up the deck and use a wire to the display to connect to the LV T but I never got to it. I never did like the idea of my amps on whenever the truck was on though.

Thanks M. Scott. Looks like I am gonna have a busy weekend, installing Infinity Kappa 5 1/4 Components, 5x7's, Kicker kx1200.1, 2 12" L7's and 1/0 gauge wiring(should be fun to hide).

I had a 91 EB with the preimum JBL sound system and i was lookin at wires that were hot when the stereo was turned on, there is a wire that goes to the amps that is a remote wire. I do not remember exactly which wire it is but i will try and look up the diagram i made of it. Ill keep ya posted.

Do you remember what color wire that was?

I could use that wire to power a relay that would give my new amp 12V when I turned the radio on. If you could remember the color it would save me some time because my multimeter has died.
