How do i remove these side trim pieces? The part with the worn out chrome on it. I am going to take it off and paint the chrome black, because the faded/chipped plastic chrome looks really bad.

Don't do it if you plan to re-use it. It'll never lay down right again if you pull it off. I would mask it and paint it on the truck.

but its this crappy plastic...i just want to paint the off white/plastic colered/chrome plates thing down the side. If i just paint it without sanding i doubt it will stick.

Right, but you have to pull the trim to get the chrome out, and if you pull the plastic/rubbery trim off, it can get wavy and stretched in places and will not lay flat when put back on. If you can lightly sand, mask and paint the chrome stripe already in there, you'll be happier. You could also use blackout trim tape- easiest solution...
