Removed Side Molding

I personally like it better without pinstripes or the side mouldings... I think the explorer has good body lines on it without all the "extra" stuff on the side..

I just wanted to say I agree. I do have to say I like the body mouldings on white explorers though. I think they look better on white.

what if ur car is two tone.. like my mounty is two tone.. lighter blue on the bottom and darker blue on the top... my side moldings are the transition between the two colors and i'm afraid if i take them off.. then it might be ugly.. the only real reason i might have to take them off soon is because i have perry's fenders and those are clean of body moldings, the fenders don't transition well with my body moldings together..

looks much better.... i did mine a few years ago and its amazing how much better it looks. I hate side molding on any car... i took it off both my mustangs as well.

I didnt end up with any blisters but the skin on my thumb was pretty loose..... lol.... and the hair dryer is a must also

Ya see, i gotta remove my side molding, but the only thing sepearting my two-tone color is the side molding.. hmm.. i'm still debating if i should remove it or not or throw my fender molding's from the stock fenders onto my new perry fenders so that when i get them painted, i can still keep the almost factory look.

clarkkent-im not a big fan of this, but you could seperate them with a pin stripe. that way, you could ditch the tupperware and still have a "seperater strip" between the two colors.

Clark, I say put the molding back on when/ifg you get the fenders painted....it will look more like a "Rich lifted Mercury", than a stripped trail rig....

hey Section, are the mouldings just glued on? I've always wanted to take mine off and I'm sure the paint under there can't be much different than it is on the body considering the truck is only 3 years old now. I always thought that if those were removed there were holes under it where it was held on! Do you have a before and after you can show me?

MoGuy, I recently did this and the moldings are only held on with double-sided tape. There will be no holes in the body. Just do it on a warm day and carefully use a hairdryer to soften up the tape - the moldings will peel right off. Use some tar remover and a thumbnail to get rid of the excess tape residue. Sorry I don't have any pics but it looks great. Good luck!

Goo Gone works awesome with a shop rag. The shop rags are just abrasive enough to work.. but not hurt the paint.

why does it have to be a warm day? does that just help so i wont have to heat it so much? and how to i get it off, just pull or will it fall off eventually? i'd just like to remove it cause mud loves to get stuck behind there and i have to wash the truck like 5 times before its all gone

Yeah.. just start one one side and pull. Like you did on your pin striping. I actually pull mine off with no heat and just used the hair dryer to soften up the glue. But I live in CA.

well i got all 4 moldings off the doors and im left with just taking off the tape from the passenger door, looks great so far, i used a wagner power stripper to heat up the molding cause the blow dryer method was going too slow, ive been at it for almost an hour and half now....

the power stripper IS too hot for the paint but you just have to keep it moving back and forth so it wont bubble up, i already burned myself like 5 times and once i barely touched the tip of the gun and OUCH!!!! :fire: :fire: :fire:

i wanted to just :frustrate :frustrate :frustrate

but so far so good, coming along great, ill post pictures later after i get out the bug & tar remover and wash it all up
