Searched and the threads I found didn't really help. This is on a 2000 5.0, got the top off and filter out but can't get the damn bottom out no matter how mard I pull. Looks like to prongs go into gromets on the fenderwall on the side, and something at the bottom that is holding/locking it down near a little black box? Plus I want to put the silencer off but can't till I get the box out since the tube run's right into the box.

Any help lol, I have the Ford Factory Service cd but can't find it

Haha, ya, service manual wouldn't show this as they don't want you doing it. Its a very simple process.

In the bottom of the Airbox, on the inside, there will be 2 holes with 3 slots in them. This goes down into the grommets that are on the mount that the box mounts to. What you need to do is push a scredriver down into each of these slots while pulling up on the box, this will force the grommets up and over the lip on the Airbox and release it. The box should then just pull out.

Sometimes it takes a couple stabs at it to get the box released from the grommets, but it will come off if you keep trying.

For the 2 grommets that are in the Fender Wall, all you need to do is pull the box out, the grommets may or may not come out with the box, but it should release easily.

Yeah, it's a real ***** to get that sucker out. I used a spare handlebar from a mountainbike and used the extra leverage to pry the box out. It will give eventually. The fenderwall grommets were the easy ones (did that by hand). The handlebar was used for the lower ones.

Haha, got it out earlier and checked this thread to see if I had any replies. I called KKM for help lol. Yeh, I had to use a flat head driver and pry it at the bottom, what a b!tch, I had to pry and yank hard as hell. My underside of my arms looks like I've been attacked by a cat. Seriously whoever designed this stuff for Ford needs to be kicked in the balls LOL. Even getting to the headlight is a b!tch and I've still not figured out how to pull it out to replace. On our LX470 everything is so easy when I installed a custom air intake, or pulled out the light assemblies for the heck of it etc. Even when I had my 03' 4.6 Mountaineer stuff was easy. Feels like stuff on 2nd gens was an afterthought lol.

I cut the air box in the front on the lower bottom half, installed the new Amsoil EAA122 filter, and it sounds basically the same as the Mac Intake I had on the 4.6, similar response increase as well. I pry won't have this truck for long, still had it in addition to the 03', but got bored and decided to do the air box mod and have a duak exhaust going on tomorrow.

If the Mounty's headlights are like the Ex, take out the grille shell for much easier access to the lights.

That's not the problem, what I can't figure out is how to get the front passenger light assembly out itself. Seems to be bolted in the front and back with some werid bolts and can't see how the hell I'd reach the back ones. The stupid cap thingy that hangs in the housing in front of the bulb somehow popped off. I'm not spending $300+ for a light that works fine just b/c a piece of plastic popped off that looks like it slides back in. I was going to unseal the light, pop it back on, and reseal it.
