Sure, but you'll have to remove almost everything else and have a really high hoist to extract the engine & tranny through the engine compartment. It's definitely less work to just drop the tranny first (no bracket removal necessary for this either), then then engine.
pulling engine and trans together in an explorer = no go
You have to lift the truck so high off the ground so you can clear the radiator support with the oil pan and transmission through the tranny hump that your hoist wont go that high, you will make a huge mess of ATF and it still has a hard time clearing if you manage to not bash up your core support.
Best bet is to seperate them, trust me we have looked into this.
Unless of course you hack off/out your radiator support then it comes straight out no problem-o
can be yes, get the truck 3' off the ground (for the trans to dip down) and a chain hoist and it can all come out, but you will remove all the accessories from the engine, exhaust, t case, starter, etc its just not worth it and its still a TIGHT fit = banged up core support
