i had my blend door replaced a little over 1 year ago and i was just wondering, is the replacement blend door a new and improved model or is it just another one that has a chance of breaking? basically, did ford fix it and make it right the 2nd time? i've been having some heat troubles and i don't think it's the blend door, but i just want to see if i can rule it out or not.

I'm pretty sure that the replacement is an improved design. I replaced my blend door back in the Fall, and the research I did at the time indicated that Ford fixed the problem, which was the material that the door was made of.

i would think so. thats good to hear b/c i really don't think thats the problem. i think i need to burp the system good or i put in a bad thermostat. thanks alot.

geez, now i don't know. it seems that when it goes cold, if i turn the blend knob all the way to cold and back to hot, heat will start coming out for a little bit. then it goes back to cold. weird part is that it will not only go from cold to hot when i turn the knob, it changes all by itself most of the time.

I would agree with your diagnosis of air in the system or a bad thermostat. Or maybe a bad water pump. Did you burp the system again?

no not yet. i will most likely do it this weekend. if that does not do it i'll have to take it to the guy that changed my blend door. he'll find out exactly what the problem is. i called him up and explained it to him, but he agreed that there is so many possibilities of what the problem can be that i should just go ahead and burp it good again, and maybe even throw in another stat just in case the one i put in was bad, and if that does not work then he'll diagnose it for me.

Blen Door Replacement

I think that I need to replace the blend door on my 96 XLT. The heat / cold knob does nothing. I bought a manual but the cables tht they say control the door are not where they say thay are. I want to fix this problem myself because I cant afford a high repair bill right now. I spoke to some mechanics and they told me that the parts are very cheep, but the labor is high because they need to take apart the whole dash. How much did your replacement cost?

Blend door

My 97 EB blend door broke into 3 pieces. I had ford fix it for $844 & change. Works great now.

What does it take to replace the blend door? I tried the free fix but after pulling the actuator I tried to move the door by hand. And it wouldnt move, so I tried to force it. That ended up breaking it further, and it blew out broken parts after that.

Does the entire dash need to be pulled to replace the door?

Exact same thing happened to me, but there was still some of the door remaining in that shaft thing, and the fix still worked.

I believe so.

The steering sector , dash and center console must be removed if your door is broken and falling down. It's a job most people won't try.

I remember reading a "how to" that was linked, from a thread here, that showed someone actually cutting a hole in the side of the plenum, and replacing the door through the hole. You had to buy a whole new plenum to get the door, so it did cost a little money, but seemed like good idea.

Of course I can't find that link now, but I know it exists here somewhere........

BTW, I did the actuator motor shaft "pin" fix a few months ago. Very easy to do, and has worked well so far.
