So my factory JBL system stopped working a few weeks back (just plain stopped, didn't do anything weird other than not turn on anymore, no clock, etc) and I've replaced the HU, bypassed the amps, etc, but now I have a problem...

What the heck do I attach the remote lead from the aftermarket stereo to that will operate the power antenna? Is this just a simple thing, or is it going to be really complicated? I've searched and searched the forum, and I can't seem to come up with anything. Someone had posted saying it was the green wire w/ a red trace, but I've tried that and still nothing.. and there's some talk about switches but nothing specific. I'm out of ideas :(

i had that problem and i had a blown fuse and i attached the remote control wire from my new HU to the dark blue wire which i guess is the mute.

Nope, fuses are all fine.. I'd checked and recheched that ;) What I finally did was strip the green/yellow and red(orange?) wires coming out of the hole where the antenna comes through the passenger side, and stuck a 9V battery to the wires.. got the stupid thing to go up, which is "good enough" for now :/

I'd still like to figure out how to get it to work with my new deck, but it can wait, as long as the radio works ;)

Now all I have to do is chase down a wiring issue with my right rear speaker and get the new amp in, and I'm set.. argh.

I swear this JBL system has to be one of the most EVIL creations on earth.. it's horrible :(

And no, I didn't use an amp bypass, Fry's was out and I didn't feel like going anywhere else.. so I just wired it all by hand.. UGH!

for the antennae you have to get back into your rear cargo panel and set up a relay from the stock 'media unit' back there. a real PITA, have fun

Yes, that would be fun, considering the box is GONE.. all the wires are relocated under the carpeting under the rear seats ;)

For now I'm just not going to worry about it... I've had a heck of a day...

* Replaced HU, antenna didn't work and RR speaker didn't get power.
* Searched for what seemed like hours to find a fix for the antenna, stumbled upon the 9V trick, but the 9V I found was dead.. so searched for another one.
* Found new battery and got the antenna up... yay
* Decided to forget about the RR speaker for a while, started working on installing a new amp (well used, it was one we had around) to power my thunderform..
* Go buy wires to wire the amp
* Positive battery terminal was literally fused onto the post. My husband managed to grind it off with a dremel while I took a break (only part he helped with, BTW)
* Had to go buy replacement battery terminal and wire it.
* Finished wiring the amp (so I thought)
* Battery acting like it's dead now
* Jump start car.. amp is working
* Jump start car about 5 more times before deciding the battery is toast.
* Go get new battery
* AutoZone guy (hey, it was 1am, only place open!) BROKE OFF the negative post just trying to get the battery out to test... the post didn't just come out, it literally snapped inside the terminal connector
* Replaced Battery
* Pray that it wasn't the alternator and it was the battery
* Ran all the amp wires under the carpet and fixed the RR speaker (ran new wires from the HU into where the wires enter the door under the trim, fixed that), cut a cute little hole in the carpeting to feed the wires to the amp.
* Put trim peices back and test radio again.. everything still works
* It's 3am, and if I never have to mess with any of this again, I'll be happy :)

The seats are still out, but I'll get the husband to put those back in tomorrow.

On a good note, it sounds *really* great now (at least I think so).. but I guess it should for all the time, effort, and money I've put into it.. sheesh. Seems like there's never such a thing as a "simple repair" with my X :( All I wanted was a working radio again... nothing left in there is "stock" except for "some" wiring and a few screws I reused when putting in the thunderform a month ago :D

hi easter, i was wondering how that thunderform was sounding and is your HU powering it ?

The thunderform sounds great, I got the non-powered one about a month ago and I had it running from the stock amp until the whole system went out.. it was working "ok" before then, but with the other amp (Rockford Fosgate 100Z II, it's maybe 3 years old? But not used for the past two) in it's sounding a LOT better ;)
