But, does it really "restore" anything, or just make it look good for a few days or so?
 






One of the most effective ways I have seen to restore some types of plastic trim is using a heat gun. This method reestablishes the surface by melting the oxidized top lay into the substrate. It resets the surface but even this will still re-oxidize over time. It does take some skill to do this right and not apply too much heat.
 






But, does it really "restore" anything, or just make it look good for a few days or so?
Actually it keeps it looking great for about 6 months to a year. ...and yes, the plastic soaks it up. Takes a few coats if oxidation is bad.

I'll have to give it a try then. I have a few ford vehicles with some nasty looking black trim that are only 3-4 yrs old. The few "restoring" products I've tried so far only last a couple weeks at most.
