One of the most effective ways I have seen to restore some types of plastic trim is using a heat gun. This method reestablishes the surface by melting the oxidized top lay into the substrate. It resets the surface but even this will still re-oxidize over time. It does take some skill to do this right and not apply too much heat.

I'll have to give it a try then. I have a few ford vehicles with some nasty looking black trim that are only 3-4 yrs old. The few "restoring" products I've tried so far only last a couple weeks at most.
