Return to Los Coyotes! Sept 14-15

I don't know if the brake line I got will fit. Also, I'm open diffs running 33s still, I don't want to hold you guys back? I have a wedding to attend on Sat, but can wheel Sun. Mark me down as a no for right now, but don't be too suprised if I show Sunday first thing. What channel?

Any channel but Ch 1 (:p, Rick). 9AM is a good meeting time, and we can meet in the campground at Rick's campsite. I may not go up till Saturday morning, and then stay over.

Los Coyotes

Rick, Bill,

I`m going to try like hell to make it on Sat. be there around 8:30 or 9:00. I`m the copper colored Ranger that was at Truckhaven last Jan. I`ve seen Bill up there a lot and I`ve been there a ton so we will have no problem getting around up there. See you Sat.

Peter

Aaah, Peter, you're PCola! Cool! Ya gotta make it!

Rick, add Tom and Tom to the list, although they won't have vehicles. :( Also, you want to pick a channel? I have a chart for you that shows the Ham equivalent of all 40 CB channels. :)

any idea where you'll be camping at, or will your campsite be easy to spot once we get through the gate?
A wheelin buddy of mine will be showing up in his stock wrangler also.

What's the road like from Warner Springs to Los Coyotes? Paved? Dirt? It's hard to tell from my map.

Also, will I see a check in point when I arrive? I need to get there before 6pm right?

Lots of questions!

Lots of questions!

It's paved most of the way (up to the checkin point - the last mile or two isn't paved)

Yes, No, you can arrive after 6pm, you just have to go checkin in the AM.

I believe it's paved right up to the gate. From there to the campground (several miles) is dirt.

DB, we'll be meeting somewhere in the campground, like last time. Just look around till you see a BRIGHT orange Explorer!

Rick, that chart I mentioned gives CB channels in MHz. Is that what you need to tune in on Ham? Fer instance, Ch 21 is 27.215 MHz.

Yep that will do it Bill.

Pheww... I've been busting my butt for the last three days trying to get ready and I think I've got everything done! Just need to load up tomorrow and I'm on my way!

I won't be able to make it.:( Hope you guy's have a lot of fun and take pictures.

*Trip Report* Carnage & Fire! Here's all the mayhem:

Four rigs showed up for return to Los Coyotes and looked to be an epic day as temps hovered in the 80's.
All was going well as we traveled to Bagby's rock for some photo ops. We decided to make our way back out of Bagby's and take a lunch break then head over to EL Hill. There was a small group there, a couple of jeeps and a very clean landcruiser whos licence place read: IH8JEEP. Anyways, Rick showed no hesitation to head up EL Hill. He had a little trouble over the first obstacle which is the hardest part of the hill and then the noise everyone dreads...BANG! The U-joint at the pinion grenades. So now Rick is sitting just about in the middle of EL Hill staring straight into the sky. With some help from our group, they got the winch hooked up and proceeded to reel in the cable. Thanks to the IH8JEEP guy, he provided a winch point for the last part of the ascent to the top. Rick had a spare driveshaft back at camp so we all decided to go back and relax a bit...besides, it was nice and shady there. As I pulled into camp one of our group members who was ahead of me had his truck die on him on the way back in but luckily it was downhill and he coasted in. He got a tug into town and called AAA for a tow. Now, here we are in camp just about ready to hit the trails again, Rick went up the road to see if he could get a good signal to make a phone call on his cell and then these yahoos pull up to our camp in what we think is an old 70's subaru wanna be rally car looking thing, roof cut out, full roll cage, shocks through the rear, off road lights on the grill and loud as hell cause he probably had no muffler...pretty humorous to say the least. So they ask us for some easy trails they could go on in their fine machine of theirs so we pointed them up to the lookout tower which is basicly a fireroad. It may have been a half hour after that one of the 3 in the car came back to our camp and asked us for a ride back to the car he was in and said the car was on fire...we said, WHAT!! The guy said it like it was no big deal, we couldnt believe it. We all went up the road to check it out and sure enough they started a forest fire. Lucky for everyone the winds were calm but nonetheless it had spread. We gotta hand it to the firefighters, they had a spotter plane in the air before we even made it to where we could see the fire and then they started dropping reterdant on it. next thing you know all kinds of trucks and equipment were
making their way up. It was a hell of a day up at Los Coyotes I just hope they dont shut the place down on account of thos people. I do think they should take a look at the vehicles they let in there though. Oh and when I left for the day, the sheriff had the people in the car that started the fire pulled over and it looked like the sheriff was writing a big fat fine for them.

Then you just laugh your ass off!

I'll capture and post the vids later.

Wow:eek: Thank God you guys decided to go to LC instead of Big Bear. The shots of Tom And Bill hauling the firemen are classics. They look like magazine photos.
Good job guys:thumbsup: It's not every day you can off-road and help save a trail. Thanks.

Thanks Rick,
It was glad to finally meet you and see your rig in action. I'm glad it was worth the trip for you from AZ. Those fire retardant drops are amazing, of course having a nice camera like yours helps too...lol.
