So no certificate for me today. Everything was good except that the exhaust exits just before the rear axle which is right above the roller for the dyno. Because they have had the probe fall out before onto the rollers and get damaged they said I had to either extend it back or bring it out the side. So I have to get the exhaust extended and then schedule another appointment to have it inspected again.

Wow they have a dyno for inspection?!

The dyno is for the smog check which is all that's left. Here in CA they check at both 15 and 25mph. The rest of the inspection is completed and everything was good.

Got the exhaust done today and scheduled a new appointment for the 20th.

Ditto, congrats. That's great work, and I like the official decal too that's on the door jamb.

explorer v6 to v8

Hi. Ive got a 1997 ford explorer v6 and want to exchange for a v8. what do i need from donor vehicle?

easiest is a 1997 V8 explorer that matches the drive configuration of your V6 (4WD vs 2WD).

What are you going to do about the transmission?

The biggest single issue to overcome is the PATS anti theft system. The second generation Explorer ('96 - '97) did not have PATS but the '98 MY on did. Stick with those years as your truck fuel system matches. In '98 that changed also to something that is not compatible. Your engine/trans must look entirely like a '96 - '97 or entirely like something else.

Search 'PATS' for lots of 302 V8 swap discussions. Also, here is a long thread on all the compatibility issues. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364540

And below is my own personal saga on the effort including a long grocery list of all the issues I addressed in installing an '00 302 in a Volvo, the majority of which you could skip.

It may be a long shot because this thread is quite old. but you wouldnt happen to have some of those parts from the donor would you? I like the looks of that tubed front bumper

Sorry but no. I took everything down to a recycling yard and scrapped it.
