I just got a pair of the OE rockers from the last link and am very satisfied with them, they fit great .... On the passenger side the very lower part of the dogleg, the extension to the rocker (It was still in good shape at the wheel well), turned out to be worse than I thought after I opened it up and not wanting to wait for a replacement I attempted to make one myself and trust me, it's worth every penny to buy one ... I spent as much time on that little piece and getting it to look right as I did on the rest of the rocker and had to use more bondo (1/4 -3/8" thick in some places) that I like to

In fact I just finished cutting out the other side about 10 minutes ago and hope to have it welded on and ready to bondo by tonight ... it's a LOT of work but the end results are well worth it if you take your time and do it right ... can't wait to get some paint on there, hopefully this weekend if everything goes smoothly

One thing I have learned from this is that there are a couple of engineers at Ford that need to have some common sense slapped into them ... who's the MORON that designed the layout of the plugs for the door wiring? I took me over an hour to get the driver's side undone when anyone with the common sense God gave a turnip could see all you had to so is make the wiring a couple of inches longer and move the plugs down a bit ... cripes I could have cut the damn wires and solder spliced them back together ina 1/4 of the time and if I had to do it again I'd do exactly that ... if you can't get to the plugs to get them apart, you may as well not put any there at all ... sheesh America needs to put their Engineers into the field and make them work on their own moronic designs and put an end to that kinda crap .... I come across that kind of nonsense every day in the HVAC trade too and no longer wonder why the foreign manufacturers are kicking our butts all over the place ( /rant off)

I thought the rust issue with cars was a thing of the past. Explorer's don't rust at all in the Lone Star State. It wasn't until I saw an Explorer from Wisconsin that I was shocked to see how badly rusted out that Explorer was. I thought the metal was supposed to be a lot better than the 70's and all that undercoating they always brag about, but I have never seen a car rusted out as bad as this 92 Explorer.

Does washing the vehilce imeadiately help retard the rust when driving through snow?

Why do they use salt?

Here they use sand....

OH!! rust is a big issue.
Sand gives you traction, Salt melts the snow/ice In the northern states, they use a mix of both. Ye, on all my cars I constantly wash out the wheel wells when I get home from work. because of that my cars do better then most. I am not the original owner of this '91 X and the previous owner never even waxed this one. It took a lot of elbow grease to get the paint shining again
First Gen Explorere Rocker panels are a big issue in the snowy states.

What can you do to the pieces under the tail lamps? My 92 was rear end and I have to repair as much as I can myself. This 1st gen is fixing to become my 16 yr old daughters first truck and she doesnt want it to look ghetto as she calls it..The truck needs work so Im hoping to repair this truck with her she likes to do mechanical things with pops lol

Actually, comparing the two '94 Explorers that I've owned in Wisconsin with earlier model year cars I've had (also in Wisconsin), the Explorers aren't bad at all. I've just now got a few spots starting -- my earlier cars had major rust holes long before they reached the age of my current '94 Explorer.

Washing often DOES help retard rust -- it takes the salt off.
