I rolled my wifes 98 EB 5.0 2wd today on the interstate.
Man what a ride, But just to make an explorer owner proud, I changed one tire and drove the thing home with no probelms. Just shaking from mud in the tires.
Any way I am looking for a good body to transfer everyhting from hers to the new one. I am a mustang man so I am not sure what years will interchange or be easiest to work with.
Hers still runs great and we owe like 3k on it with no full coverage so we are stuck with it. Any info you can provide will be great

Wow, thats rough- a body may be hard to come by. I'd suggest a replacement 1998+ year model and stick with the 5.0 drivetrain. You can probably part yours out on here, and get some $$ out of the engine, trans, transfercase, front and rear axle, seats, etc...

The good news is explorer prices are fairly low now with high gas prices, I have seen them for $4k in decent shape.

Yea I have 2 fox body stangs that would love to have the GT40 P motor in them right now but with us owing 3k on the truck I dont want to part it out just yet. Is it hard to convert a 6cyl over to a v8? I see alot of them around for under 2k some as low as 900 with a bad tranny or motor. I know in the mustangs as long as you have a doner car it is a weekend thing. but In not so sure on the explorers.

Well he said he had a 2WD so that leaves out the transfer case. I take it you want to keep the engine and all that. 97 was the year that Ford started putting V8's in the Explorer, the the body style changed for the rear door in 98 and the front valance also changed. I would stick with 98+ models.
Oh Sorry about your truck. :(

I'm sure that you already know that the wiring harness and the computers have to be changed, but I pretty sure that the engine mounts are in the same position.

The v6 to v8 swap is a bolt in deal, provided you have a donor truck, which you do. Id buy a v6 with a bad motor and or tranny and swap your drivetrain in. There is a guy on here who did it to a sport not too long ago. Swapping drivetrains is probably easier than swapping bodies anyway.

I have been looking at a fully loaded 98 Mercury Moutaineer 5.0L with a perfect body on it and a bad engine here in Denver $1750

They are out there but ones that have not been wrecked for cheap cheap are a bit rare

What you are looking for is a 98-2001 Explorer/mountaineer with a bad engine or transmission

thanks
I would love to find one for around 1500 close by.
I am going in the morning to buy a 99 expedition for her to drive untill we get it situated.
how hard is it to swap the info center in the center console over to a v6 model if it is not an EB?

hell got any photos of it?? i would like to see just how "capable" my truck is haha.

and sorry bout the ride :(
gutta love them tho, if it was a toyota you probably wouldnt be here today! haha

Indeed, assuming the frame's still straight, you'd have a pretty easy time of either swapping your body for a good body with a bad engine. To go that route, almost any body would work, whether it's a v-6 or not...

Otherwise, you'd want to look for a V-8...swapping from a 6 to an 8 can be a pain in the butt IMHO.

how about a 98 4wd v6? mine is a 98 2wd v8
how bad would that swap be?

If your frame is still 100% I would totally go with swapping bodies. It would be a ton easier.

As far as the '98 V6 4WD.. it should work well. Swap the PCM and probably the GEM behind the radio along with the radio bezel with the 4WD switch.
