I'm seeing some different years available and am wondering if I get a service manual for a 91 if it's the same as my 93? Wire colors and whatnot?

The Haynes and Chilton manuals should contain the information for 1991 through 1994-95. I believe that Ford slightly changed the colors for the wiring in their 1992 and later models. You may want to shoot for 1993 specifically or get one that covers all years of first gen Explorers.

I just despise Chilton and Haynes! Every manual I've ever had from them is crappola! Was looking on ebay and say some 91 and some 94 factory manuals. Was hoping they'd crossover to the 93.

A group of people from this site should get together, and make their own repair manual for the most common problems. It could be something like a quick how to guide without all of the extra repeated stuff that doesn't apply. Some of the generic black & white pictures in those Chilton & Haynes guides aren't for that vehicle year, and I even came across the wrong torque specifications. My ATSG guide on the A4LD has a mistake on valve body bolt length, and another mistake in the back on the solenoids. You would think that things like this would get corrected after a few editions of the same book.

...Look for years 91-92 and then 93-94 Explorers...The first gens had a 2 year run before they started swapping components under the hood...

...I was going to suggest some info for the 93 from this thread but it looks like it didn't happen..:(

We just need a computer pro to help us with that manual. That manual on cd is slick when you get it going. Had one for my 95. It detailed how to pull the dash for my plenum install. Also let me trouble shoot the lights. If you've had factory manuals then you know why I'm wanting one so bad.

Nah, think that's just a program for running CD's from the hard drive. Did you get it to work?

I've used that program with the ones downloaded from the old Ford CD website. It should be the same ISO image even though it's on a different site. I'm not sure if my version of the Magic Disc program is the same as the one from the link, but it did work with it.

91 & 92 are very similar, 93-94 are very similar
91-94 are similar but enough wiring changes that Chiltons or Haynes will not do much for you.

I recommend Alldatadiy.com

Just bought a CD manual off ebay. Not a Ford one but some kind of repair manual.. Will see how it is. Was only $7 shipped and the guy has great feedback.
