hello, this is my first post, I just got a 91 4wd explorer. It's a real beater, but exactly what I need to get me through the winter months.

I have found my first problem with the vehicle : I noticed that it will roll backwards in Park, even the e-brake will not hold it.

What could casue this, and what can fix it?

Thanks in advance, I look forward to posting, especially posts that are not about problems :)

possibly your shift cable needs to be adjusted and you are not all teh way in park
or your parking prawl inside the trans is busted

You can repair your e brake or asjust the shoes to get it to work again.
It does not roll forward in P on a hill?

Sounds to me like the transmission is not getting fully into park (shifter linkage)

I just KNEW someone would ask about rolling forwards. I haven't tried it yet.

I did notice that one time it did not go all the way into park as it moved when I stepped on the throttle...

cable
prawl

2 things to check :)

thanks!
