Rollover potential

my boss had i tire blow on his gen 2 when doing 80 mph going down the highway. he didn't roll because he didn't over react, and kept it under controlled.

The issue has nothing to do with the suspention, the design of the truck, or even the tires themselves. If you look at the inside door sticker that rates what PSI the tires are at, you will see ford rates the tires for 26 PSI!

26 PSI!! you are asking to have a blow out. That was the problem, not the truck or the tires. Tread seperation was a false fallacy that made its way into the court room and the media with out being caught.

An explorer, first gen or not, is one of the safest SUV's to hit the market. Japanease SUV's is what you need to worry about.

Im with Rhett, ive spun 360's, 720's at +45 mph in +13" of snow, pretty much each time was became an off camber situation, where i went into a ditch. Needed 4wheel low to get out. Never once did it seem like it was going over. And this was lifted with a body lift.

Its all about how you react, like what Blee said. If you DRIVE it like an SUV, you wont FLIP it.

Ford was just as responsible for the rollovers as Firestone.

Fo real?????

FORD said 26 psi????

Jeez........that sounds STUPID.........expecially if you're on the freeway at 70MPH........OK, I don't have the spec on the "original" tires, though I suspect that the tire mfn had the tire printed w/ 32 psi (maybe 35 psi) max on the side wall..........so, 26 psi??? If I were off road climbing rocks or on the sand, that would be something else but, not on the highway/freeway.

And, I won't/don't buy FIRESTONE anymore.............remember the FIRESTONE 761 radial tires??? They had the same problem w/ thread seperation, and that was before the FORD/FIRESTONE Explorer problem.

Aloha, Mark

PS.....Sorry, it was the FIRESTONE 721 radial tires that were...........C%^p.

Don't forget, most of the roll overs(if not all) happened on a freeway at speeds with weather so hot you could cook and egg on the pavment. When a tire blew most people freaked, hit the brakes and turned the wheel sharp causing them to roll. Now, granted the tires were crap because I had a set on the X that were comming appart(cracking) but the door jam also said the tires were to be inflated to 25 psi according to Firestone. It was a he said she said thing with Firestone and Ford......but who had more money??The other thing was that Chev and even Dodge were running the same tires are there vehicals.....but they were not recalled.......HMMMMMM!!!

It's a truck drive it like a truck and it will never flip on-road. Off-road is a diffrent story. If you are driving fast enough to flip one at hiway speeds without a blow out you are driving way the f to fast. As said above the Firestone incedent was the tire blowing out and people freking out.

Ford set the reccomended tire pressure at 26 psi for a soft ride on on rough vehicle. You don't have to be going too fast to roll one, I'm sure I could roll one at 40mph if I wanted.
