Check out Surco products. I have their safari rack and cross bars and love them. Incredibly sturdy and remarkably light weight. I got them on Amazon as well

It costs more (a lot more) but I really like my yakima racks. I use it mostly for snowboard racks in the winter but also to strap long cargo down. Also have a Yakima hitch bike rack and I'm impressed with the sturdiness. Also since its popular you may be able to get lucky and get a used basket, etc off craigslist or ebay for less.

I searched Craigslist for a while when I was considering a roof basket and people seem to think Yakima and Thule stuff loses 5% of retail value after 5 years of use. I was always drawn to the Thule stuff myself and Lono may pitch in here in a bit with his new revelations.

When I had settled on a roof basket (but eventually tossed the idea), I was set on getting a Curt. I know they make good products and the price was around $130.

I bought mine from ebaymotors for around $70 shipped, their lockable and strong as hell. I can stand on these and they won't flex. I had a Yakima MegaWarrior mounted to them with my spare tire and offroad lights, I still have my l.e.d.'s hooked up on them ad have been thinking about mounting my offroad lights back on top in front and rear.

Link?? Are they a specific brand/model, or china special?

the crossbars rebel has are about the strongest you can find on ebay, plus they lock which is good. i have a set from ebay as well, they are strong and sturdy, but the locks on them are not as great.

if you are willing the spend a few hundred bucks, thule makes the best crossbars on the market. they are called aeroblades. not only are they the strongest bars on the market, they are the quietest by far. they are virtually silent. they are publicly rated to hold a capacity of 165 lbs, but theu can actually hold 800 lbs. they just dont advertise this fact because they dont want anyone throwing 800 lbs on their roof. they cost about 150 a pair. look into them if you want real quality.

I'll try and find them on there today, I got them a couple years ago so it might take a while to find them. As for the locks, they work great. For added security I put four long self tapping screws thru the mounting bracket into the bars so no one can pick the locks and just take them and the rack when I had it up there.

Scope, the set you linked to are really high, I didn't want that so I got a set that are as low profile as I could find.

y they no black?!

guess I could hit them with plasti dip or bedliner. Since I seem to be spraying everything with that lately.

Those are def in my price range, I can't bring myself to spend $100 +++ on cross bars

Once you lock them though, expect to break them apart if you want remove them. I had the same crossbars, I didn't like how they looked and so I found some stock ones on craigslist. I did'nt have the old ones on very long but the locks were seized up real good when I tried to take them off.

Graphite and PB blaster fix that, you need to spray it into the locks every fall and spring.

I don't imagine I'll be taking mine on and off more than once a year..if ever
