Yep, mine was built from a seriously heavy duty homemade weight bench from the '70's.
The spindle is more then strong enough to hold a spare, jerry cans, high lift jack, etc..., it's the frame ends and mounting bracketry that you need to strengthen so if doesn't sag when it's open.

Good to know. I was looking at my dads 76 bronco and Hansons bolted a bracket to the frame (sort of boxed it) then bolted the bumper through the frame and bracket so I was thinking about something like that. Or just boxing the frame. What do you guys think? Or do yall have any other ideas.
