2013 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello, new to this forum. Thanks for letting me in. Have 2013 Explorer XLT 4WD 201,000 miles. Love it.

I love royal purple products. On their page it states that Dexron VI trannys aren't recommended to use the max atf, anyone know why? They aren't forth coming.

Dextron VI is a lower viscosity fluid than Dextron III, which is what the Royal Purple fluid is compatible with. Lucas makes ATF in low and high viscosity for older and newer vehicle applications.

not sure about this specifically, but usually what prevents fluids from being interchangable is the requirements set my the original MFR (such as required additive package), viscocity. usually those "universal" fluids are made to suit most requirements, but obviously arent made for everything (you can satisfy mosy, but someone will always be unhappy) or at least thats how i take it. it could even be small difference imo, as for 2nd gens, mercon used to be spec'd for the tranny&tcase, but when mercon V came out (succeeding mercon) the tcase couldnt use mercon V, only mercon LV. so in the 2nd gen case imo couldve been slickness, as imo mercon v "feels" a bit slicker, but i could very welll be wrong! just an example of how little differences can affect "fitment" not too sure about this case specifically.

also, welcome to EF!!! :bounce:
