RTV, sealants and sensors

Most of the Permatex products say they are sensor safe.
What can happin to a sensor using silicones or sealants that are not deemed so,and what sensors are affected,and How? just curious

O2 sensors are sensitive I have heard. Ultra Gray is the safe version. Do you have a specific thought about them?

No Thoughts at all, just curious as to what damage can be caused by non-sensor safe RTV and sealents

It can clog the sensor and contaminate o2 readings.

I love RTV. I bought my house six years ago, and sealed the fireplace two years in a row, with the recommended black tar crap in a tube. It hardened and cracked within a year. After two years, I chose to try Ultra Black, and it hasn't cracked yet. It lasts a whole lot longer than normal household type silicones and sealants.

I have used it to seal kitchen faucet fittings, shower drain fittings, etc. It's great stuff.

I may be wrong, I realize if you got the actual sealent into a sensor, that would cause a problem, am thinking the solvents in sealents can cause damage as they harden and gas out

Well.. sealing components on the engine and all that can cause it to damage the o2.
