I've got what I think is a good deal on a Low pinion EB dana 44 and 9 inch rear end from the same truck. I've read all sorts of threads on SAS for my year (92) but I have a hard time differentiating what is necessary for the swap and what is going the extra mile. I'm not made of money and this truck is my daily driver. Can somebody please tell me what I can expect to pay for everything other than the axles for a basic swap? I know my prices may be different but I need a starting place. Is there any welding required? (I don't weld) If all the parts were collected could this swap be done in three days by a reasonably skilled mechanic but first time swapper? Sorry if all these questions have been asked before I couldn't find the answers. Thanks for all the help.

What did you get with the axle? Did you get radius arms? You will need RA mounts - preferable adjustable($160) ones. Springs($120 3.5"), spring buckets($? not much though), shock mounts($50 dual weld on), and so on. How about steering? Did you get the linkage with the axle? You will need coil cups for the axles.
What are you doing for brakes? There are a ton of things to consider, but if you planned well and had EVERYTHING you could do the swap in 3 days or less. There is welding involved with the RA brackets, spring buckets and shock towers. I am doing the same thing, but working a few hours at a time to be sure it is done right. It is tough to do to a DD because you don't want to be out of commission for too long. Good luck! ;)

Thanks for your response. You rule! Exactly the kind of help I was looking for. The front has brand new rotors and has had the knuckles relocated on top. It does include the linkage. So I'm good there I think. Does it need to be lengthened/shortened? Any recommendation on RA's? Is there a good aftermarket worth the money or should I just used stock? The RA ends I need to salvage off an EB or can they be bought new somewhere? I'm planning on riunning them full width should there be any problems with this? About three inches wider than stock right? Thanks loads.

Ok - first of all - the EB D44 isn't full width - it is about 58" WMS-WMS (similar to the Ex) where full width is about 65". You can use radius arms from an EB or a 78-79 F150/Bronco - they should be about the same. I would spend the money on the adjustable RA mounts - you will run into camber issues (so I've been told :) ). I don't have any answers on steering yet as I haven't gotten that far. I've heard the tie-rod over knuckle flip is good to do, but I haven't researched it that much.

By putting in the 9 inch I'll lose my ABS right? I've also heard about a VSS (Vehicle speed sensor), apparently there's a "tone ring" in the 8.8 that helps the computer know the vehicle speed. Is this gonna F*** up the computer if I don't have this on the 9 inch?

I was thinking that it would not work either, but then again I ve heard of people running the 8.8 with that thing unplugged. I dont know for sure about much on this, but I believe you'll lose your rear abs and I guess thats it. If nobody on this board offers something for you go to www.currieenterprises.com and contact them. They know it all.
