you know Ive alway and I Mean ALWAYS filledu p with Mid grade at the minimum. Sometimes Premium. But even when My mom drove the Explorer she always put mid grade. Just habbit now. THe thought doesn't even cross my mind to use anything lower.

And you are simply wasting money. If you do not have a tune for a higher octane fuel, there is absolutely no reason to use a higher octane fuel.

Maybe. It does burn cleaner.. so that's one thing that's good about it.. it's not like he's going overkill and is using premium on a stock tune..

He's going to say because the stock recommended fuel is unleaded 87, which your truck was built and tuned for.. anything higher is a waste of money, because your truck isn't taking advantage of the higher amount of octane.

I had to use premium once, both other tanks were being worked on or something.. and they were selling premium for low grade price.. so I went with it.. I noticed no increase in performance or mileage.

For him perhaps, but like I said.. it was at the price of low grade because they were doing maintenance on the tanks they use for mid-grade and low-grade.

Hmm i don't ever run the low grade 87 because the mid grade 90 with ethonal is like 20 cents cheaper here in NE.

Sorry for getting off subject, but why is that weird? I live in NE, you know the cornhusker state.. corn haha. This is where all the ethonal is coming from so they don't got to truck it around and stuff which makes it cheaper

The lowest octane fuel burns faster, and is best for stock engines(stock tune). If there is pinging then the answer is to find and fix the problem, not to change fuels. Both of my trucks right now run fine on regular gas, with very little if any pinging.

A real PCM tune like is being discussed here can benefit greatly from a different fuel. Higher compression engines like the SOHC 4.0 will do better with higher octane gas, more than the low compression 302.

Compression and fuel octane go hand in hand, if you want more power and efficiency, raise the compression. Then tune for it with the best gasoline. Regards,

Yes, I think you wouldn't see anything with premium to be worth the extra money. I'll be running mid grade soon with tuning in my 99 SOHC. My high compression 347 will have to have premium.

Yes, and you should be able to read it by looking at the PCM in the firewall, under hood.

There's a lot of random numbers and letters on it. Sticker is kinda dirty too and won't clean off well.
