Sealed or Ported

I have 2 L7 12s in a sealed box and believe me... you do NOT need a ported box to pound.

ported would jus make it pound harder

the only thing with a ported box is that you should not play a song or test tune that has an extremely high frequency at a high or full volume...that will not be good for the voice coil in your speaker...solobarics like the lower and slower beats more than the high and very fast beats.. haha, the only noise coming that i like coming of my solobaric's is BOOOOM, not "..psshhhhhhooom.."
that took a while to describe that sound! haha

thats not really true at all.

you can play all the same music with a ported box as you can with sealed just the frequencies below the tuning frequency of the ported box could be potentially damaging depending on the size of your box, power level and equipment used.

any sub will like any frequency it all depends on the box its in

just let no one understand it-

if you don't have a ported box it is because you don't know how to (true 99% of the time)

thats very true.

and if you have a good ported box you'll never have a sealed box again

Ok guys I have another Sealed or Ported question. I have a 15" cerwin vega
I am having trouble desiding what box to go with. A nice small sealed box or a ported comp box. I am asking because I listen to pop/rap and also listen to rock. And I love deep vibrating bass. But also like clear, clean bass What would be my best :D

"and if you have a good ported box you'll never have a sealed box again"

Thats an ignorant statement :)
Sealed has its place as well as vented, application is everything when building an enclosure. Working towards an end result drives what enclosure you use, what driver and power you choose, etc.
I have built many many boxes, all different styles, I currently have a small sealed box in my truck. You can also build an enclosure that has the best of both worlds. So to say once you have a correctly tuned vented enclosure you will never want sealed again is just not right IMO :)

it is almost true though

i just did an install with butler tube amps and diamond audio stuff in an S4. he went with a d6 12" in a sealed box because it fit his needs to be sealed. Do i think that i could have built him a ported box that he would have liked the sq of just as much- probably. However, in a super sq situation like that sealed does often have a place.

as far as anyone who would ever consider putting an l5 or l7 in their truck goes- if it isn't ported it is because you don't know how to build or get a proper ported box.

What would be a proper ported box then? One custom made or a factory one (Kicker makes those). I'm guessing an eBay box is not the way to go. What should it be tuned to? Thanks for all the responses.

we can all debate on this for weeks and weeks everybody has their own taste what bumps good in my truck you might think sounds like crap, so it would save us alot of time if you just told us what you want deep, sharp, or lasting bass that way we can quickly identify your needs and get you to deaf like the rest of us just give us a heads up.

you know- i don't think the ebay kicker boxes are the worst thing in the world.

some people like being tuned lower than others though- what is most important in determining what i would recommend is the complete system. what other speakers, source unit, and processors you will be running.

There is a ported box that is tuned to 38Hz on eBay. Thats what I'm going to go with I think. For door speakers I'm thinking Pioneer 6x8s at BestBuy and the L5 is going to be powered by an amp with 500-600RMS. Thanks for all the help

aftermarket hu?

amp for the door speakers?

Yeah I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P650. I wasn't planning on an amp for the door speakers. The Pioneer has 22x4rms and that should be enough. Thanks
