A friend of mine bought a used 2000 and the previous owner disabled the seat belt warning alarm.

Does anyone know if this is fuse controled or where to look to reactivate it?

Thanks in advance.....

Al, does yours have a seat belt alarm? My '99 doesn't. When you start it the light comes on for a few minutes but then turns off, usually by the time I have let it warm up the light has gone off.

Come to think of it, neither does mine, just the lamp.

I just looked in the owners manual and it says there is a chime too.

???????

Further, it says nada about the chime, except there is one.

Any ideas guys??????

I forgot what year but at some year they added a chime to it that goes off if the seat belt hasn't been buckled. My friend's 2002 F-150 and i seem to recall someone saying that their Explorer has it. It was either 2000 or 2001 when they added this.

When I disabled mine it was under the dash. Just this big huge controller box that I unpluged to get rid of the annoying sound.

My owner's manual has a procedure on how to disable the alarm. It involves a bunch of key on-key off sequencing while latching/unlatching the seatbelt. I don't have the manual with me, but his manual should have it in there.

My wife's '01 Taurus, will not let you drive with out a seat belt. It has an annoying chime/flashing light that just keeps going off until you put on your seat belt.

The seat belt chime can be disabled by unplugging the connector under the seat. In my Dad's 90 F150, the chime would stay on unless you had the belt on, even in when in Park. The little connector goes into the seat belt realease, simply unplug it from there.

Aldive , WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT !!!!!!!!!
there is no reason not to.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw a face ( blood and hair sticking out and all ) imprinted in a windshild.
That is just the people who wern't ejected from the vehicle.

I unplugged the connector AND wear my seat belt on my '99. I still get the flashing light for a moment, that's it. And yes, seat belts are my friend!

Who, hot rod.... RTFQ.

I have a friend who wants to fix his alarm AND the subject came up on my '99 and I want it fixed as well.

I always wear my belts.

Side Swipe: I work in a collision repair shop

Aldive: Yeah , I just reread your first post , I guess I just jumped to a conclusion. I thought you wanted to disconnect it so you can cruse with out your belt. Glad I was wrong but my bad.
Obviously this is a tender issue with me

If you guys read Aldive's original post he said that he wants to REACTIVATE the charm, not turn it off.

Here ya go Al, hope this works for you.

Here is how to activate the belt minder.

Before you start check these things first.

1. set parking brake
2. set gear shift in P or N
3. ignition is in the off position
4. all doors closed
5. lights are off

To reactivate do as follows:

1.Turn ignition to the on(run) position.
2. Wait for the safety belt warning light to go off.(1-2 minutes)

Steps 3-5 must be completed within 60 seconds or you will have to repeat the procedure.

3. Buckle and unbuckle the belt three times, third time leaving the belt unbuckled.
4. Turn on the head lights, turn off head lights.
5. Buckle and unbuckle the belt three times, third time leaving the belt unbuckled.

After step five the belt warning lighht will go on for 3 seconds.

6. Within 7 seconds of the light going off, buckle and unbuckle the belt.
7. Comfirmation of enabling the belt minder is provided by the belt warning light flashing 4 times per second for 3 seconds.

Procedure is complete.

This procedure will also deactivate the belt minder if you chose to do so.

How to deactivate/reactivate auto door locking as follows.

Note: The doors will not be locked automatically if the vehicle has been started in N (neutral)

Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed, the ignition is off and all doors including the tailgate and its window are closed.
Steps 1 to 5 must be completed within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. Before repeating, wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Press the door unlock button 3 times.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4. Press the door unlock button 3 times.
5. Turn the ignition on; the horn will sound.
6. Press the unlock button, then press the lock button. The horn will sound once if the autolock system has been deactivated or twice (one short, one long) if the system has been activated.
7. Turn the ignition off. The horn will sound once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Taken from the handbook.
Hope this helps
Cheers Howard.
