OK, does anyone out there know what year seatbelts are interchangable? I know gen. 1's are, but will gen. 2's fit into a gen.1 ? Specifically the fronts? I know 2 doors won't interchange with 4 doors (different mounting), but beyond that I'm all stupid. TIA Gentlemen......

What do you mean? the belt and retractor thats mounted to the door pillar?
Or do you mean will the belts in your truck snap into the retainers on your later model seats?

Not sure what you are asking.
I have 97 Explorer seats in my 88 BII and the 88 BII seat belts snapped right in, but then I replaced my 88 BII belts with some retractors from a 95 ranger and used the 95 ranger clips, they still work with the 97 seats.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more specific..... Will later generation retractors and pillar mounts work in my 92 XLT, and will they snap into the stock first gen female end? I need to replace the retractor and belt in mine, but first gen red ones seem few and far between, so I was hoping to branch out a bit....
Thanks.

They should, with a little work.
The problem I ran into with mine was the Ranger retractors actually mounted higher up on the pillar and when I bolted them in my BII I found the seat belts are too short. :)
I took them to an upholstrey shop and had the "webbing" replaced with black for under $80.

You can always do that you know, find a retractor that works from a like Ex and use it, just have an upholstrey shop sew in new red webbing.

Also yes they should click in from later model Explorer's. If not you can swap out the retainer part as well that attaches to the seat.

Didn't think of using an upholstery shop, THANKS!
The problem I'm having is the retractor is damn near seized up. It's almost impossible to pull the belt out anymore. Tried everything I could think of, but it's still the same...... so time for a replacement......
