To hook up a HU just for the pre-outs you need to wire up everything but the 8 speaker leads. Constant 12v power, accesory, 12v power, remote, ground. Try a search for "door and panel and removal" There is also a thread on it in the useful threads.

yo when u installed your aftermarket speakers did u need a spacer? or is there enough room? im gonna get a 6x8 to 5.25 adapter and use some 5.25 components will i ned anything else?

Call Crutchfield and tell them you need a wiring harness for your explorer. It should be <$20 and will plug right into your X's wiring harness (where the factory radio is currently plugged in). All of the wires will be labeled and then you just have to match them up to the wires on the harness that came with your new HU.

The best way to make the connections is to solder them but if you don't know how to solder and don't have a friend who can do it for you, you can just twist them and then wrap them in electrical tape. The best electrical tape for use in cars is Scotch 33+.

ok sounds cool both of my friends know how to do that ......... how do i get the speaker wires from my components to my amp

It depends on where you're mounting your new amps. The most common method is to run the wires under your door sills. They come up very easily and have a little extra space under them.

You need to run speaker wires into the doors. The passenger door is easy, it is a rubber "accordian" thing that the wires for the power windows and locks are in. The drivers door is a little more difficult, it is a plastic hinge that houses the wires. With a little patience wires can be fed thru it. I prefer not to solder wires but use bullet and butt connectors that are crimped on.
