Sensor on the Intake--drivers side--what is it?

Side of the intake, on the driver's side, next to the EGR. Looks like a temp sensor. What does that sensor do?

Intake air temp
Its a brass looking deal with red thread sealant on it to the rear of the EGR?

THAT! I could not find out the name, I was told to replace mine. BTW the heads are tight, the head gaskets (twice) are sealed, and the little Ford that could is coulding (sic) more and more....

You know it is nice little XLT ride, doesn't have the zoom my 99 has in it nor the 98 5.0 but I like it!
