I have a 2002 explorer XLT, 2wd and have maintained it well so far. Two
days ago the "service engine soon" light came on and when I called the
dealer for an appointment, he quoted me $161.00 just to check it out.
After I picked myself off the floor, i got on the web and joined this site.
Thank You! and so checked the FAQs and got advice to check OBD11 port engine codes at Auto Zone, which I did, and found a code P-1151 Fuel air
metering. I called the dealer to find out which component this refers to
and of course they would not tell me and told me to bring it in (these guys
are not stupid $$). So since I am "between jobs" a euphemism for slowly being crushed by the illegal alien invasion and out of control goverment spending,( lower wages and more and higher taxes), i am desperate to try to fix this malfunction myself. If any of you American Citizens can give me some advice on this code, I sure would appreciate it. A dentist appointment is half the cost of going to a mechanic. Perplexed.

P-0151 would be "upstream heated oxygen sensor low voltage (bank 2)". Not sure what P-1151 would be.

Also to do with the upstream O2 bank 2 sensor.... check you wiring to the sensor to make sure it isn't melted or otherwise faulty. Potentially the sensor maybe in trouble and can be replaced.

I recently had my check engine light turn on, and as did you, I went to AutoZone where they checked it for free. If you do a Google search of Check Engine Light Codes, or OBDII Codes, you should be able to find the code that applies to you and some tips on where to start looking.

It's always a good idea to check the sensors for malfunction and pay close attention to any changes in drivability/performance.

Hope that helps.
