does anyone know why after exiting the truck and placing my hand on the door to close it I recieve a shock probably (static). this isn't the first vehicle I've owned that this happens to me. Is there anything I can do to prevent this. I sometimes see rubber straps hanging to the ground off the rear bumper is that was these are for??? :fire:

The straps help to ground the car... try using fabric softner in your laundry... the static is built up from your clothing rubbing against the seats.

cool...anything else anybody??

yeah I get that all the time.
I don't know how to remedy the issue though.

this is why you touch a metal part of your car before you pump fuel. I love my leather :)

I think it's because we have such a 'charge' in personalities we are electifying :D

One that was passed down from my mom. Take a spray bottle, fill it mostly with water, and put a teaspoon of downy fabric softener in it. Mix it well and spray your seats and carpet with it. It's diluted enough that it leaves no residue, but will kill the static. Dont ask me why it works, it just does. I have to do it every year in Colorado, due to the dryness of the air here.

will do...thanks

Get leather seats? I have waterproof seat covers on mine, and I don't get a shock.

I kinda like it.

I've always heard (Well, several times anyways) that tire Mfr's. dont put as much carbon in the tires as they used to years ago (B4 anyone was getting shocked, by the way) because it makes them too hard, ie a hard ride and that it was expensive to boot. The 'high carbon' content in the tires of yesteryear, apparently provided a perfect path for static electricity to go to ground. The static elect. is built up on the metal surface of the vehicle as it passes thru wind. Anyone who has worked around aircraft can back me on the fact that; if you dont put a ground plug into a plane that has just landed B4 you touch it, you get an %$&* of a zap! And YES, those straps on Cadillacs and such, are for that purpose.
Jus' an ol' farts .02

PS Have noticed over the years that different brands of tires have differing "SHOCK VALUE".... :D
