OK, About shocks, everyone is telling me that the Rancho 9000's are the best to get. THat is what i wanted in the first place. A guy at the place that is putting one a 4 inch lift for my 2wd 97 explorer, said that they wouldn't fit. so he said that i should just get Procomp 3000's. What should i get. What is the best shock to get please give your advice?

Use Bilstiens. A friend who races and builds trophy trucks said the ranchos are junk because they foam and loose funtionality as they get hot from use. The Bilstiens are a made at a higher tolerance and nitrogen pressurized, this eliminates foaming and they dissipate heat better.

He's wrong. A shock can be built for any size truck. In fact several people here run rs9000 with their custom lifts and 35' tires. He will need to do some looking in books for a different size though, but they do make them. The # in the books is always for a stock rig and those will not fit, but you can find one that will. If he can't, try somewhere else who can.

ps....I see you got a 97 with IFS and a 2wd. Are you getting a custom lift, a Fabtech lift, or a body lift??? If it's a body lift I'd think twice about going that big. I also didn't know they made one that big.

Anybody remember Doetsch Tech?

These were the hot ticket out in Cali about (GOOD GAWD!) 10 years ago or so.
I knew a couple of guys with Toyotas that swore by em. When I was looking for my shocks I saw that you could get the Doetsch Techs by length and attachment fittings.

Don't know if anyone has tried them recently though.
Good luck

If I am not mistaken there is only a 3" spindle lift available for the 97 explorer. If you are getting the spindle lift you do not need to replace the shocks. If you want to replace the shocks because their warn out, I would get BILSTEINS all the way. They are the best shock on the market, when it comes to being specific per application and their internel construction. They also have a life time warranty and are rated to last 80,000 to 100,000 miles at full strength. I have them on 3 different vehicles ands they are awesome. There great on and off road. Thank You
