Show Off Your MOUNTY!

My 99 Explorer grille has screws(phillips head)(about four) holding it on along the top edge. There are clips along the bottom which snap in. Check along the top and remove the screws, then it should pull out. My 99 headlights and corner lights went in last, so those may have to come out first. Good luck,

yeah i was hoping the lights wouldn't have to come out

Jon, I had noticed that a couple of years ago. Ford fixed it in 1999, I have always thought it stupid to place the model name before the make.

My theory on why car companies do that is marketing. Say someone doesn't like Mercury. They get behind a Mountaineer and think it looks really nice. We read left to right. So the first thing they typically see is Mountaineer. They say to themselves, "wow I really like that Mountaineer, I wonder who makes that"? They look around some more, naturally looking to the right since we read left to right and they see Mercury. They say "wow Mercury makes that. Maybe Mercury makes some cool cars after all".

Although I think it's dumb too.

I'll get some more recent ones soon.....

When you get ready, I have some suggestions for painting over the chrome. PM me, I don't want to clutter this thread with that info.

Ok heres a quick picture I took today while doing the yard work.
since I purchased I painted the chrome grill to match, EE cowl hood, and factory 16" wheels.

My Mountaineer is Toreador Red, with Dark Toreador Red below. I'm not thrilled with the darker color, but the combination is good. Thanks,

Great thread guys, too bad though,:( you could have bought more mods for a Explorer with the extra money you have paid for the Mercury name badge :) haha!

Mine cost me $8500 in November of 2002, they can be had for less than half of that now.
