Sirius Recommendations

The CD changer in my '96 has died, took it apart and the motor only spins the disc when it feels like it and then its slow. So, I'm thinking of getting a new CD reciever with Satellite capabilies and am leaning towards Sirius because they have the NFL games. The stock amp has given me problems in the past with the passenger side cutting in and out over bumps -- I cleaned all of the contacts and its been better since, but still don't mind bypassing it with a good high-power head unit until I get another amp.

So I 'think' I'm looking for an indash cd player that is Sirius/XM? capable that I can also add a changer to -- last time I checked it was one or the other but not both due to limited inputs, but that was about a year ago. I've seen units at best buy from alpine, kenwood, jvc that seem to match -- but does anyone have any recommendations based on what they have?

The other option is to get a dash mounted unit -- but I think all those are FM modulated right? -- which sorta defeats some of the digital sound quality.

Sirus > XM

I have experince with Sirus using 'Clarion' actually: cheaper, better and pretty reliable in terms of how long they last.

Apine is good.

Never had good luck with Kenwood, JVC or Sony, infact i hated all three of them.

Pioneers stuff is decent. If you are looking at the Alpine stuff, its the better buy, or atleast it was when i was using them =)

But im telling you, Look for 'Clarion' They're not as popular (IE you wont find them at best buy or circut city, unless yours is cool), but they do so much for so cheap and they are reliable.

Get the HU. The modulator is really not worth it in the big scheeme of things.

My Sirius wires into my changer and then the changer into the HU.
Works like a charm

Sirius ( or any satalite radio for that much ) will spoil you wrotten very quickly.
You will never listen to FM again.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm leaning towards the HU as well -- but then the question is what's the best way to get the NFL games inside the house without a 2nd subscription? I don't think they are broadcast over Sirius' internet channels.

i've got an Alpine 9833 with XM Radio, and i love it. Pretty nice i can change the XM station right on the radio. also remember if you get a stereo with XM/Sirius built in capabilities get the adapter for that certin stereo and the XM Antenna. about 100 for both of them. once you go satellite you won't got back to FM.

Wheather you go XM or Sirius you won't go wrong. i'm not to much into sport channels i'm more of a music guy myself. Satellite ROCKS!

Well FYI all the NFL broadcast stuff from Sirius is just the local radio feed.

There is a on-line Sirius feed too.

Sirius in the House

Only the music is available on the net - none of the talk.

I have an Audiovox PNP3 in my car and the great thing about the plug and play is that you can buy another cradle and just take it with you. I've got it in both cars and a home one and also a spare for rental cars or the garage (I've got a car radio in the garage and a 12 volt supply).

Both vehicles have a cassette deck in the stereo so I use that to get the Sirius audio but you can also buy a hook up that will put the Sirius right at your head unit's antenna plug...people say that works very well.

Certain C Band satellite receivers with slight modifications *might* pick up every channel Sirius and several other things have to offer. If they did, all you would need was a satellite TV dish to pick them up too.

...or so I've heard. Ahem.
