OKay so with my luck you get used to this sort of thing happening.....

It seems that MANY Skyjacker 6" Ranger/BII/Explorer lift kits are going out with 2 different 6" coils in the box.

Thats right though both coils appear to be the same, same free height (19-5/8") same number of coils and VERY close actual coil diameter, but once they are installed the true nature of the coil is revealed.

ONE COIL IS A VARIABLE RATE AND ONE IS NOT.

Here's the story:

About 3 months ago I purchased a set of Skyjacker 6" coils for a 93 Explorer from Four Wheel parts here in Denver.
When I opened the box I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, you can actually see one coil is slightly different, it looks smaller in diameter. I figured it was no biggie, one just got more powder coat then the other.

WRONG. FInally installed the coils with my new cut and turned TTB setup. Drivers side coil sits 1" lower then passenger side coil. You can clearly see that one coil is variable rate and the other is not.
So I called up 4wparts and told them the story. They say we have another set in stock, bring it down and we will take a look at it.
I drive 45 minutes down there, the salesman comes out and looks at my truck, he tells me they are the same and its just me. Tells me I can purchase a second set of coils for $200 and take them home, choose the two coils I want, bring the other two back for credit (they will cut me a check).
Well this isnt gonna cut it. First off I am headed to Moab on Friday, which would mean two more trips to 4wparts, then I would have to wait 2 weeks for my credit cehck in the mail.
Well this trip to Moab is gonna require all myu spare $$$ So I couldnt do it.

I ahd the salesman pull another unopened Skyjacker box and open it up.
Sure enough I could tell right away in that box are the saem TWO DIFFERENT COILS!!

Skyjacker has been sending out who know how many 6" coils boxes for the TTB with two different coils inthe box.
I call Skyjacker today and they tell me I may be on to something, because the coils should siut the same and look the same.

I will get some pictures posted so you know what to look for.

TOday I flexed out the truck and there is a LARGE difference in coil spring rate from side to side. This withthe fact that you can visually see the coils are different is enough for me to DEMAND that 4wheelparts swap out my coil at no cost to me (no two trips down there, no time to go and swap coils, etc)

So tomorrow we shall see if 4W parts values me as a customer and wants me coming back. I have spent over $2500 there in the last 12 months, I would think good business = make it right.

Also they should confirm my dilema with Skyjacker so they can look into this and recall the recent 6" kits.....

So just a head up for you guys, if the coils look different out of the box, guess what they probably are......

I will post the outcome and some pictures to better explain the OBVIOUS difference int he coils.

Looks to me like I will be running MOAB with two different coils unless they can fix me up after work tomorrow.......

Thats pretty interesting. I am going to look at my coils tomorrow and see if there are any differences.....That could possibly explain why I did not gain any front end height...

Yeah maybe you ended up with two variable rate coils huh!
