slipping transmission

Trans shop I called wants $2400 to re build it, said they do one a day, won't use used or rebuild parts in them due to risk of early failure.

One day huh? To rebuild a Transmission? By the FORD manual? Pull a transmission, tear it down, CLEAN it, inspect it, perform ALL the well known upgrades and/or repairs, reassemble it with top quality parts, flush the cooler and lines, reinstall it and test drive it??? In a 8 hour work shift/day?

Really? For just $2400? Thats a heck of a deal.

It takes good part of half a day to tear it out
Cross member bolts breaking off as well

What is your suggestion?

Have you priced an exchanged overhauled unit?...From a very reputable overhaul facility?

As for the 1 day turn around shop...the same shop that told you these transmission are junk....um. My wifes '02 S/T just turned 230k. I changed the fluid (Motorcraft) and filter (Motorcraft) at 150K. She drives like the grandma she is, doesn't tow trailers, etc and never had it offroad so perhaps that's why hers is still rolling along. Knock on wood.

Rebuilt unit of unknown origin $1900
Or a used unit $800 on ebay

These things slip
They bang on reverse
You can loser it at 50k or 150k miles

I nursed this one to 170k

On oil change I turned the fluid twice a year so it was always red
Synthetic
No towing
The one time I did it was slipping and I went and got a real truck

I’m calling another recommended by trusted friend this morning that is closer saving on the towing cost at least

What are all the known upgrades?

I thought you knew these well from your first post

Updates to the Transmission:

Updated Overdrive & Intermediate Servo Bore Sleeves
Updated Overdrive & Intermediate Servo Bore Sleeves, which requires special reaming tools, that re-bores worn out aluminum servo bores which is an extremely common issue as early as 50k miles! This could negatively affects shift timing and servo/band apply pressure, and could cause false pressure control solenoid codes, and also cause band failure and ratio codes. This problem is the NUMBER ONE most overlooked issue by other rebuilders. WE REBORE EVERY BUILD EVERY TIME, we do not CHECK IF OK, WE REDO the correct way!

Updated Superior K0105 Forward Front Ring Gear Hub Snap Ring
Superior Super Tuff Heavy Duty Snap Ring, which helps prevent common failure of the planetary gear sets and forward clutch drum, which is a very common issue with the OEM (FORD) Snap Ring.

Updated Superior Shift Correction Kit
Due to the factory design of no cooler flow cold, it is extremely temperamental to fill and get a correct level, as well as running extremely hot compared to others without flow control systems. Superior finally broke thru with a patent pending Sure-Cool Full Time Cooler Flow Valve along with enhanced Lube system that nearly triples the Flow thru the cooler and parts, especially the O.D. Planetary. These Flow Control Upgrades virtually eliminate front Planetary Burn-up due to lack of Poor/ No lube. This new system also furnishes a built in cooler bypass system that if the unit is extremely cold (fluid starts to gel) or in the event the cooler is blocked / restricted, flow to the parts still occurs - protecting your transmission investment. Also includes Superior K060 "No Stick" Line Pressure Relief Valve Kit. New Lock-up upgrade system that allows an On-Off Type Apply that is proof the lock up apply does not have to be firm and harsh to be fixed. 3-4 Drum Piston return springs replace the often found fatigued originals, due to band and drum burn up. Kit also addresses several TCC error & shift solenoid error codes as well as P0740. Keeps Solenoid Blocks, Parts and Components Cooler and lubricated with these new system Upgrades and Superior Quality "Real Steel" Components backed with solid TransLab Engineered improvements from Superior Transmission Parts, Inc.

You have to pay freight both ways
Return is your vote
And install labor and fluids

2400 is looking cheap

Sounds like you have found your fix. What's the warranty?

On the one on eBay 1 year 30k 2&3?year available

Going to see how close the locals can match these specs

thought my Tr fluid was full for years, until checked it while running, on a flat surface, and at operating temp. you have to check while running and warmed up.

I got every mile I could when it failed, it was so fried inside the case was not rebuildable, that was another 300 for no good core

Reality is as it performs now it was on its way two years ago

Now to the fuel vapor smell. Can’t see what they could have touched no visible leaks
