With a fresh rebuild what would cause reverse to take 5 seconds or more to engage and even when Iu does its hard to tell its in. When before you could tell

another symptom in reverse is while in reverse when you give it gas it revs high and moves slow

now i have no reverse i adjusted my kick down cable ( pressed the button and pulled the cable all the way out and pressed the gas pedal to the floor) and it made a clicking noise any ideas?

so, in the 9 years i have had my exploder i have had my transmission rebuilt 2x. After the first time i had a similar problem that developed maybe a 1000 miles after the rebuild. it turned out that the rebuild wasn't done correctly the first time, so the next time they gave me a discount. anyway they didn't put the correct amount of tranny fluid in and installed a gasket wrong. anyway, i said all of that to say that maybe you're low on fluid or the filter might need to be changed.

I'm with fish, check fluid level first, when she's warmed up, engine running, in park.

If that checks out, drop the pan and drain the fluid (now would be time to add upgrades like a drain plug, temp gauge, etc) and swap out the particulate filter.

Are there any other symptoms in other gears? Any weird noises/leaks/smells/anything odd that may not seem related?

Not to hijack but didn't see a reason to start a whole new thread for this question. I am about to do a transmission flush and filter change and wanted to add a drain plug. So question is. is there a specific plug/drain to get or will just about any aftermarket be ok. Anyone used one or like one better than another.

I took the whole truck to th guy that I had rebuild the transmission he took the valve body out and made sure it was flat and made sure everything in it was free, and it was but still no power in reverse and it still shudders when pushe. The fluid level is right and the filter is new he is tellin me there my be a crack in the case i have pulled the trans 4 times already and honestly I'm tired of messing with it is there any other ideas

Do what I just did, switch to a 5-speed?

The issue with it would be driving a manual tranny, if you're not used to it, and that it costs around $500 or so to get all the new and junkyard parts.

The benefits I think speak for themselves; I.e. better engine cooling (no more auto tranny cooler in front of the radiator) the potential for much better mileage, and a much simpler drive train that is both stronger and easier to repair (if necessary).

Any auto parts store will sell drain plug kits, about $5 or so, and any will do fine. I overkilled mine, and welded the whole hollow bolt/washer assembly to my pan, then removed the inner nut and ground the inside flush, so that there would be no fluid collection pockets, and no leaks... l did the same with the temp gauge too.
