I don't know how i can....I went to AutoZone and had them try to pull the codes twice. Neither guy could do it....said the scanner should light up when plugged in....it didn't.

MY wrench didn't fall out on the way there either. I suppose, now that the engine's cool, I'll try the spark plugs.....long shot as fouled plugs won't explain crap....but I bought them, might as well put them in.

One more thing....on the way to AutoZone, my check engine light was not on, but the car was still running like hell...I think I need a couple of priests to fix this car.

Just pulled the rear two plugs on the right bank...insulators have dark (like burnt/flakey) spots oppsosit the top electrode. Running lean? They're Autolite double platinum plugs (APP764) which I'm replacing with Autolite Platinums (AP764)....guess I'll throw the rest in and see what happens

Hey--
This is a long shot, but try cleaning the maf sensor-
Also-check the TPS voltage signal if you can.
The black flaky stuff makes me think it is fouling-rich

Lean plugs would be white-

Got a Hayne's manual? These plugs look EXACTLY like a "TOO HOT" plug....one ugly blister on the insulator. Good idea on the TPS and MAF though....definitely wouldnt hurt to check them.

Thanks,

Kelly

Ditto what Jon has said, I'd worry more about the burned wire smell. Do an all over visual check of any wiring near the smell you found. You can and should swap the relays around. If you can get something to change, then you are getting closer to the issue.

Has there been any kind of wiring done under the dash, like a remote starter or alarm? Look over the hot parts of the engine closely for any touching wiring etc. Good luck,

I'd go with the misfire...my 98 Mounty did the SAME thing last week, luckily I was with a mechanic. The flashing engine lights does indicate a misfire, and while looking at the car, found one of the wires shocked me. then in the next few days the light went off, came on, went off, flashed, now its on solid. bought wires yesterday and I'm going to get plugs in the morning...i'll let you know how it goes.

OK....with the plugs changed, the car ran perfectly....for about two blocks. That's when I first started feeling slight power loss. I went to my mom's to pick up my son and left it running in the driveway...came out, and it sucks again. Rough idle and all....something's fouling these plugs and I bet it's the fuel pump. Anyone every hear of a fuel pump slowly giving out? I guess I'll have to get a gauge on the rails...my wife has run this thing out of gas at least six times since i got it for her.

Screw this thing....I'm getting the Mustang out.

Yeah maybe you need to take a break-

fuel pressure is definitely the thing I would check next.

I think your system is returnless-with the regulator at the pump--

Yes, my 99 Explorer was down on pressure, at 55psi. You need at least 62psi normally for 99+ Fords.
