I have a 99 eddie bauer explorer and it's AWD.... has anyone had any issues after disconnecting the differential? I'm almost sure that mine is starting to go out... I dont want to replace it at all but at the same time, before I go disconnecting stuff, I need to know what I might be getting myself into in the future.

Symptoms?
Normally it is the front drive shaft which makes all the popping and grinding noises.

Try removing it and go for a drive.

Also, make sure the tires are all the same size, and brand with similar wear pattern. Diameter difference between tires will cause a real ruckus.
