While trying to change out my struts and (broken) springs on my '02 explorer,
I managed to snap the bolt that hold the toe link in. I managed to get the bolt out.. But I'll have to replace the bolt.. The question is where? Will my local AutoZone or AdvanceAutoPArts have something like that? Or am I going to have to go to ford to get it? Oh and I'll need the nut too!

Thanks,

Jim

If you have the broken bolt you may be able to match the size and thread without going to ford. Be aware that the strength of the bolt must be considered as well. Good luck.

If you have the bolt out, you can bring it to the autoparts store to size it up and grade it. I don't think autozone would have this as that store is not exactly the kind of store you want to go to.
Don't go to the big chain type stores, (autozone, pepboys and the like) you will want to go where all the garages in town get their parts (trust me, it is not autozone). Advanced might have it, NAPA may as well.

How did you make out. Interesting minds would like to know!

I went to a local screw store. They were able to match the size and lenght.. but the strength was a little less... We'll see how that will play out later!

I'll try to get the real bolts at a later date and put them in.. but for now I'll live with this!

Any good store should have had grade 8 bolts.
Ace Hardware has a great assortment of sizes.
Same with Tractor Supply

I got grade 8ish.. The original was ~10.9!! (or something like that)
And I didn't get the flange nut or the square head so I'll have to do some hunting later.

Good luck!

Is that mother holding or are you dead in the water? Inquiring minds want to know! :salute:

So far it's holding just fine. But I don't really drive the truck that much. It's my gas guzzling, don't care if it gets dirty, haul sh$t around truck.

Glad it's working out for you! :salute:
