So Cal Desert run after New Years

Well me, BigDave!!!! and white96x want to go on a so cal run after new years before we go back to school. there are a couple different places we could go: Ocotillo Wells, Pismo, Glamis, Barstow/Lucerne, Jawbone Canyon to name a few. the purpose of this thread is to see if any of you desert guys (or girls for that matter ) wanna go, and where and when. we could do the 7th and 8th or the 14th and 15th. i go back to school the 16th. post here where you would like to go and what weekend. hope to hear from you.

You guys realize your trip is right between two other runs? New Years at Truckhaven Jan 1, and the Annual Truckhaven trip Feb 4.

Maybe merge your run with one or the other? Or is this a 2WD run?

well if it ends up being at ocotillo the 4x4 guys would have fun too because i always see jeeps and samauri's out there, and i know a few palces where it would be tough for a 4x4, if any wanted to go, so no its not excluding 4x4s at all it just probably would be as fun as say truckhaven.

also if its at ocotillo maybe we can merge it because dont you pass anza borrego and ocotillo wells on the way out to truckhaven going east? i have heard of a few people taking the 78 out to truckhaven and that goes right in the middle of ocotillo wells.

Truck Haven is only about 10-20 miles down the 86 expressway north from Oco. You can go the 78 way to Anza but from Oco. it would be fastest to get on the 86.

yeah any one is welcome but it would probably be most fun for guys with more than average suspension travel. like dave said there is some hills in Oco and whatnot for 4x4 guys, but us 2wd guys probably couldnt hang at truckhaven, or it wouldnt be as fun in a 2wd. so this is an opportunity for them to run with some explorerforum guys.

well thats what i was waiting for, someone to give me their preference. that weekend is good for me. if anyone can go that weekend, let me know in this thread. if not post when you prefer. but should we plan on the 7th and 8th?

i vote for Ocotillo, just cuz i know the area. ive nevr been to Pismo, but i would be down to go if anyone wants to chime in on what its like. how does it compare?

hmmm i dunno i still say ocotillo i guess.

i would go to truck haven (believe me i want to) but there is some stuff under "dont show up with out it or you will be asked to leave" that i dont have. such as a full size spare, or tow points. well i could afford tow points and install them but i dont know about a spare. i dont even have any whre to put it either. i also have an open diff rear on my 2wd. maybe i could afford a LS but i donno yet.
