my EX is running great just one problem it wont start.
This afternoon I made a stop at my uncles house just to say hello. When I jumped in my EX and turned the ignition it would not start. The battery is good and the starter sounds fine. I know the battery is good because I had my unlce hook up the jumper cables and it did not make a diffrence. The head lights and radio are also working.

My uncle then got a screwdriver and taped two nutts off the side of the battery. The two nutts are part of a little black round cap that is near the battery. The wires that hook up to this round thing are comming from the battery so thats what it looks like. By doing this the EX started right up.

I then drove straight home and parked the EX. I gave it another try it did not start again.... this time for sure even after taping the same nutts my uncle did...

What is the name of the black round thing that we touched? Was that a good thing or a bad one ? And finally what could my problem be? Any one please help me?????>><<

that is your fender mounted starter relay/solenoid

sounds like the relay is dead?? not sure though

If it started like that....Turn your ignition to ON...then go and jump the two bolts with a screwdriver.....

Check to make sure all the connections on the solenoid are good.. Dumb me noticed the lil wire that goes to the ignition was disconnected one time when it wouldn't start.

First you say, "The battery is good and the starter sounds fine. " Then you say jumpering the starter solenoid made it work. Sure, if you jiggle enough wires around the engine it might start working. The starting system sounds unrelated to the real problem.

I put in a new solenoid , same thing.. I think it might be my starter.. What do you think?......... were is my starter? little confused...

The Starter is held by TWO bolts.....crawl underneath, and there will be the positive cable going right to it....If you get it out...you can test it...

If you hear a rapid succession of clicks "click-click-click-click-etc" real fast when you turn the key over its not your starter, that means your starter is trying to engage. It could be your battery or your battery cables. Go buy a cheap voltmeter and check the voltage on your battery. It should be above 12 with the truck off and above 14 when it is running. If it isn't there is something wrong with your battery or your pos and neg connections. Do this and you could save yourself a lot of headaches.

I got a new starter now and I still have the same dammmmmmm problem. I also replaced the cables going to the starter. Im going to try the voltmeter thing see if that works.... If anyone has a clue please help I am getting unpatient.... oh their is no long clicks its just one click...... and its comming from the solenoid............. this sucks my EX is not running...........

starter problem

Thanks to everyone who gave me a reply on my EX. I finally got to the bottom of this pain in the butt of a problem. My original starter was bad, so me being the cheap ass that I am I figured that my solenoid was bad. Boy was I wrong. Then I changed the cables going to the starter, still no fix. Then I bought a new starter. This is the part that pissed me off. The NEW starter was bad. I took it back and exchanged it for a good one. Before I left the store I had them test it. I instaled it and now I am GOOD TO GO.......

Thanks alot to those who gave me a reply :chug: :chug: d......
