I've had my Explorer for a few months now and have found some very useful how-tos that have really helped me out while lurking on this forum. I just did my third oil change today and the air filter as well. I gave the filter a quick check when I first got it and since it looked new didn't worry about it 'til now. While I was in there I cleaned the MAF sensor and dug around in the airbox for leaves, etc. I didn't find any leaves, but DID find a cone from an old air filter stuck in the intake hole! I'm hoping my mileage will increase since it hasn't been that great even with new plugs, wires, PCV, etc. I've been getting 16-17 MPG, but really am hoping to get closer to 20. Just figured I'd come out of hiding to share this story and maybe remind some people to check around in that airbox every now and then.:)

Umm, that's not from an old filter, that's a silencer cone. It's designed as a part of the intake to help silence the airflow. Many feel that cone restricts the airflow and remove it, but seldom do they report massive Hp gains because of it.

For future reference, your posts should not be in the Sport Trac forum. :)
